In a recent edition of ‘The Here We Go Podcast’, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on recruiting Chelsea playmaker Conor Gallagher. Romano said,
“It’s really important to see what Chelsea want to do now because the negotiations to extend his contract were never advanced or concrete so far.
“There was never really an agreement close for Conor Gallagher to extend his contract – now it’s up to Chelsea.
“I think these months will be crucial, March, April, May, to understand what Chelsea want to do, otherwise they have to sell the player in the summer because it reminds of the Mason Mount situation last year.
“So it’s on Chelsea, if they want to extend his contract, it’s going to be time to make it happen now.
“Otherwise in the summer they can’t risk with a player out of contract in the summer of 2025 to keep him at the club and then lose him as a free agent next year.
“So the interest from Tottenham remains, there are also other clubs interested in Conor Gallagher, so it would be an open market for him.
“It’s important to say for Chelsea that there’s still the possibility to extend his contract.”
Gallagher is having an impressive campaign at the West London London club after he put in a string of decent performances at the heart of their midfield. The 24-year-old has scored three goals and grabbed six assists in 32 matches for the Blues this season in all competitions.

The English talent has been a decent performer in both halves as he is averaging 2.4 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass success rate of 91.1% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Gallagher is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.
The English talent can create some inviting chances for others around him in the final third and is an energetic presence in the middle of the park. Gallagher would bring more quality to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s midfield department.
At 24, the Chelsea sensation’s peak years are ahead of him, so Spurs would be wise to bring him on board at the end of this season.
