According to Matteo Moretto, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the services of Sofyan Amrabat. The midfielder currently plies his trade for Fiorentina, but despite his contract not expiring until 2024, he is facing an uncertain future at the club. Spurs are among the clubs keeping close tabs on his situation with La Viola.

Who Is Sofyan Amrabat?

A product of the FC Utrecht youth academy, Sofyan Amrabat joined Fiorentina during the winter transfer window of 2020. The Italians paid a whopping €20 million to Hellas Verona after a bright start to the 2019/20 Serie A season. As a result, he was immediately sent back to Hellas Verona on loan during the remainder of the campaign.

Amrabat joined the Fiorentina camp in the summer of 2020. However, after over one and a half seasons at the club, the midfielder has endured a difficult spell with La Viola.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Amrabat was a key first-choice member last season, racking up 31 appearances in Serie A. However, under the leadership of new coach Vincenzo Italiano, the Moroccan has fallen behind Lucas Torreira and Alfred Duncan in the pecking order. He has racked up only 214 minutes of league action, which has understandably led to the player’s frustration.

Is He A Good Option For Tottenham?

Sofyan Amrabat’s lack of game-time under Italiano at Fiorentina has also posed questions over his long-term future at the club. Needless to say, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to take advantage of the situation and wrap up a deal for the 25-year-old.

However, the Moroccan international hasn’t had much stable success in Italy so far. He had only one good season with Hellas Verona during the 2019/20 campaign and has had very little first-team action over the past six months.

It makes him a high-risk target for Tottenham, given the fact that the player may struggle in settling into the fast-paced nature of the Premier League, especially after playing so little football. Not to mention, the midfielder hasn’t particularly performed well at Fiorentina either, which leads to questions over his credibility at the highest level of football.

Nevertheless, considering Amrabat can be a decent enough competitor for Pierre-Emile Hojbjer and Oliver Skipp in midfield, he might still turn out to be a shrewd piece of investment for Tottenham. However, a lot could depend on how much Fiorentina demand for the Moroccan international, in these remaining days of the winter transfer window.
