According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Torino have rejected Tottenham Hotspur’s bid to sign Andrea Belotti. The Lilywhites are among the clubs interested in the services of the Italian forward this summer. However, their offer of signing Belotti on loan with an obligation to buy next season for a fee of €50 million has been rebuffed by Torino. They are only considering a definitive sale this summer.

Why Are Tottenham Eyeing Belotti?

Ever since his breakout at Torino way back in 2015/16 season, Belotti has become a household name in Serie A. He has been scoring goals consistently in the Italian top-flight, notably netting 92 goals in just 192 competitive games for Torino.

Last season, for example, Belotti found the back of the net 16 times, becoming the club’s topscorer and helping Il Toro narrowly escape relegation. His exploits in front of goal meanwhile have helped him remain relevant at the highest level of football, with the forward becoming a regular component in the Italian national team.

What Can He Bring To The Table?

What makes Belotti such a sought-after forward in Italy is his goalscoring prowess. He is a lethal finisher, who is brilliant when it comes to sniffing scoring opportunities and has a vicious right foot that allows him to test the goalkeeper even from long range.

However, Belotti’s game isn’t only limited to just goalscoring. In fact, the Italian international is a well-rounded forward, whose feisty 1.81m frame makes it difficult for defenders to shrug him off the ball. He had notably won over three-headed duels per game last season.

Another key element that makes the 26-year-old quite useful in the final third is his willingness to press the opposition. He applied 13.6 pressure per 90 minutes in Serie A last season, making him an effective outlet in the first line of press.

Why Belotti Is A Perfect Fit Jose

Belotti could be a perfect answer to Tottenham’s problem in the number nine role. The Lilywhites have appeared far too over-reliant on the services of Harry Kane and lack the services of a proper alternative. That is where the Torino striker could come in handy.

Indeed, Belotti’s physical prowess and competence in the air makes him a tailor-made fit for the Premier League while the Italian can add more bite to Spurs’ first line of press thanks to his aggression and tenacity. However, it is his goalscoring prowess that makes him an appealing target for Spurs.

Boasting a solid record in Serie A, Belotti is experienced enough to not only provide cover for Kane but even challenge the English international in the first-team. Unfortunately, shelling out €50 million this summer could be problematic for the Lilywhites due to the financial situation of the club.
