Tottenham Hotspur have finally reached a verbal agreement to sign Sporting Lisbon wing-back Pedro Porro, according to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The north London giants have spent the past three weeks negotiating with the Portuguese outfit for the defender and they have eventually made the breakthrough.

A deal has been agreed in principle between the clubs. Porro will be travelling to the English capital tomorrow to complete his medical and sign a four-and-a-half year deal.

The 23-year-old should be a perfect fit for manager Antonio Conte. He is well accomplished to operating from the right wing-back position in his time at Sporting.

His statistics are hugely impressive this season with three goals and 11 assists from 25 games and Spurs will be hoping that he can replicate the same with them.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard’s arrival could pave the way for a couple of possible exits.

Djed Spence has barely played for Spurs since his summer move from Middlesbrough and he could be loaned out before the transfer window closes next week.

Elsewhere, one of Matt Doherty or Emerson could be shown the exit door. Judging by the performances of both, the former seems more likely to leave the club.

Spurs are currently three points behind fourth-place Manchester United in the Premier League table but the Red Devils have a game in hand against Leeds United.

Conte’s side are very much in contention for the Champions League spots and the Italian will be hoping that the hierarchy will back him with another January signing.

Porro is set to become the club’s second recruit of the transfer window after the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal this week with a buy option.

The Dutchman has had a fine start to his Spurs career, having scored off the bench in the 3-0 win over Preston North End in the FA Cup fourth round this evening.
