In a recent tweet, journalist David Ornstein revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to land Red Bull Leipzig ace Timo Werner. It is understood that Spurs are working on a loan deal with an option to buy the German forward permanently in the future.

Werner’s Struggles In German Football This Season

Werner has struggled to be consistent for Leipzig in front of the opponent’s goal but has put in a few decent displays as the focal point of their attack. The German sensation has found the back of the net on two occasions and picked up one assist in 14 matches for his current employers this season across all competitions.

The 27-year-old has struggled to be productive as he has often seen himself come off the bench. Werner is averaging 1.1 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Bundesliga. He has also been sloppy with his ball distribution after making only 70% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

Werner already knows the Premier League well from his time at Chelsea. Hence, joining Spurs could be a good option for the player.

What Will Werner Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?

Werner can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range. He can be a decent finisher in the final third when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. However, the Germany international has to find a way to be more consistent in front of the opponent’s goal. Plus, he has to improve his passing accuracy up top.

Werner is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a winger on either flank if asked to do so by his manager. We can expect him to bring more pace and firepower to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s attack.

Werner is good enough to help the North London club compete across all competitions in the future. Thus, it makes sense for Spurs to try and snap him up on loan this winter. At 27, Werner is entering his peak and could prove to be a success story at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if Postecoglu can find a way to unlock the best out of the player in the coming seasons.
