In a recent report, Estadio Deportivo mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Giovani Lo Celso prefers a move to Barcelona this summer. It has been stated that the Argentine talent is open to a move to the Catalan club at the end of this campaign.

Lo Celso’s Lack Of Playing Opportunities In North London This Season

Lo Celso has played a sporadic role in Tottenham’s squad this season as he has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in Angelos Postecoglu’s first team. The Argentine attacker has participated in 19 matches for Spurs during this campaign, netting two goals and grabbing two assists in all competitions.

The 28-year-old has made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.6 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 91.3% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the North London club will run out at the end of next season which could open the door for Barca to sign him on a cut-price deal in the summer.

Should Barcelona Move In For Lo Celso?

Lo Celso is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch.

The Argentine sensation can even shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if told to do so by his manager.

Lo Celso would add more energy and dynamism to Barcelona‘s attack. He has what it takes to serve an important role in the Catalan club‘s match-day squad next season. However, the Argentine is far too inconsistent to earn a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp. Hence, Barca should only move in for him if they are planning to use him as a rotational piece in the coming seasons.
