The 18-year-old admitted that he struggled to adapt at Tottenham after his experience at Blackburn as he conceded that the clubs reside in two different worlds.

Phillips has been more or less a regular at Plymouth since joining the club in January and he is thankful to the club for getting regular game time.

The defender stressed that he is hoping to do enough at Plymouth for the rest of the campaign to ensure he earns the Spurs coaches’ trust for next season.

Phillips told The Athletic: “I found the transition [from Blackburn to Spurs] hard because it’s a completely different game to the Championship technically and physically.

“I hope from this loan that I can gain trust from the Spurs coaches so I can push to be starting now and again, maybe in cup competitions.

“I can only thank Plymouth for letting me come down here and get minutes regularly.”

He has made 12 Championship appearances for Plymouth with ten of them coming in the starting eleven.
