Tottenham Hotspur open to selling Giovani Lo Celso for £17m | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur are willing to sell Argentine playmaker Giovani Lo Celso this summer, according to reports.

The 26-year-old struggled for minutes in North London last season and was sent on loan to Spanish side Villarreal in January.

He impressed during his loan spell at the Yellow Submarine as he made 16 La Liga appearances, bagging a goal and an assist.

He also played an instrumental role in helping Unai Emery’s side reach the Champions League semi-finals, starting in all the matches against Juventus, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Villarreal are said to be keen on signing him permanently but are struggling with the finances.

According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur want around £17 million to let the midfielder leave this summer.

The Lilywhites completed the permanent signing of the Argentine in January 2020 in a deal worth £27.2m.

Lo Celso needs to find another club

Lo Celso is one of several Spurs players who have been dropped from their pre-season campaign. It is clear that he is not part of Antonio Conte’s plans this season.

The Argentine has been marginalised since the Italian boss took over the north London club last year.

He is a top-class midfielder who is known for his tackling, passing and dribbling skills. A player of his quality should be playing regular football but at Spurs, he will likely be a fringe player only.

With the 2022 World Cup approaching, it is crucial that he plays regularly to guarantee a place in the Argentina squad. On that basis, he needs to find another club soon.

Fiorentina are also credited with an interest in the midfielder but they may also struggle to meet Spurs’ valuation.
