Tottenham Hotspur are set to bring Jeff Vetere back into the game by making him one of their scouts, as reported by Birmingham Live.

The 56-year-old has held similar roles before and he will now be given a route back into the game and into the Premier League for the first time since a stint with Aston Villa.

He’s been in the top flight in the past but it’s with Birmingham where his last role came about. He wasn’t a scout for the Blues either and was instead a director of football with the club, tasked with trying to help steer the club in the right direction.

Emile Heskey?

Yes No

He spent a total of just ten months in the role though before exiting St Andrew’s alongside their manager Steve Cotterill. Things didn’t go to plan at Birmingham for Vetere and he has since spent time out of action and looking for similar work. Now, Tottenham are prepared to give him an upgrade and take him back to working as a scout in the Premier League.

He does have experience of doing so though. He performed a similar job for Fulham and will once again be an international scout for Spurs, as boss Antonio Conte looks to continue his fine work at White Hart Lane. This time though, his scouting will involve more work in hunting for talented youngsters rather than players who can instantly be thrown into the first-team squad.

It hasn’t worked for Vetere as a director of football before and he will now return to his original title with his new team.

The Verdict

Jeff Vetere and Birmingham just didn’t work out when they worked together last time he was in a job.

The former director of football just couldn’t get it right with the Blues and rather than take them up the table, he ended up leaving as the side were in the relegation zone. Perhaps then, the role of a director is not one for Vetere and he would be better suited sticking to a role like the one he has now.

He has plenty of experience as a scout and has worked for some of the best teams in football in this field – Real Madrid being one. Spurs clearly also value his opinion and his knowledge of the game and spotting talent to have brought him back into the Premier League in his next role.

For Birmingham then, perhaps it was wrong job and wrong time for Vetere – and he should thrive in his role back as a scout.
