Tottenham Hotspur’s injury list continues to cast a long shadow over their season as Ange Postecoglou prepares his side for a potentially defining European night. Spurs’ 3-1 win over struggling Southampton on Sunday offered a brief respite from recent stumbles, but their performance did little to ease the concerns mounting ahead of Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Victory over Saints was necessary. Having already lost at home to Ipswich Town and Leicester City, another slip against one of the Premier League’s weakest-ever sides would’ve ramped up pressure on Postecoglou at a delicate moment. Brennan Johnson’s double and a late penalty from Mathys Tel saw off Southampton, but even in victory, Spurs remain a side hampered by absence and inconsistency.
As the Australian manager looks to make a mark in Europe, his hand is weakened by several key injuries. The list is not only long—it’s full of starters, difference-makers, and tactical pivots.
Dejan Kulusevski has been missing since February with a persistent foot injury, and his absence continues to be felt. The Swedish international offers direct running, creativity, and ball retention—qualities Tottenham have lacked in crunch moments.
“Kevin and Deki are working hard still, they’re probably a couple of weeks away, but both are progressing well,” Postecoglou said last week, offering a small glimpse of optimism.
Still, the timeline remains frustrating for supporters. Kulusevski will definitely miss the first leg against Frankfurt, with a tentative return not expected until late April or early May. His loss, particularly with the stakes so high in Europe, cannot be overstated.
Potential return date: April/May 2025
Kevin Danso, the Austrian centre-back signed to provide competition for Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, remains sidelined with a hamstring issue. His injury—sustained in a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in March—came at the worst possible time.
While he hasn’t had time to fully embed himself into Postecoglou’s tactical setup, Danso’s physicality and recovery pace were seen as important depth for a defence that has already shown signs of vulnerability.
The manager has placed him on the same timeline as Kulusevski. “They’re probably a couple of weeks away,” he noted, but Spurs’ current reality demands bodies sooner rather than later.
Potential return date: April/May 2025
The injury woes aren’t limited to short-term issues. Radu Dragusin is expected to be out for an extended period following knee surgery. The Romanian defender suffered the injury in February and has not featured since.

Dragusin was seen as a long-term option in the back line—a player for both present stability and future growth. His development has now been put on hold, and Spurs must cope without him in the final, and arguably most important, stretch of the season.
Potential return date: Unknown
As Tottenham prepare to face Eintracht Frankfurt, the message is clear: this is no time for frailty. Injuries have left Postecoglou with a thin squad for a critical period in both domestic and European campaigns.
Though Sunday’s win helped stem a tide of negativity, the true test lies in how Spurs manage the coming weeks without some of their most important players. For now, hope rests not only on form and fitness, but on the speed of recovery.
