According to Daily Star, Tottenham have expressed interest in Anthony Martial. The Manchester United forward is expected to leave the club following the arrival of Jadon Sancho, putting numerous top clubs on red alert. Spurs are among the clubs keen on securing the services of Martial, although his £50 million price tag and a £250k wage bill could be a major stumbling block.

What Does It Mean For Tottenham?

There is no secret that Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for attacking reinforcements. Their desire to sign Anthony Martial, in particular, suggests the vulnerable nature of their depth out wide.

Son Heung-Min has signed a new contract with the club but Harry Kane remains uncertain about his future. Meanwhile, Gareth Bale has left the club and despite the return of Ryan Sessegnon, Tottenham are running out of quality options in the final third.

Lucas Moura did well at times last season, but his lack of consistency is an issue, whereas Steven Bergwijn has failed to even settle into the fast-paced nature of the game. Erik Lamela, too, has left the club as the Argentine simply wasn’t good enough to improve Spurs in any manner. However, it won’t be surprising to see the Lilywhites eyeing for more reinforcements, with Son likely to be deployed in a central role following Kane’s potential departure.

Anthony Martial: Is He Worth The Outlay?

Tottenham undoubtedly need new attacking faces this summer. But Anthony Martial might be too huge a gamble, given his difficulties at Manchester United in recent years.

The Frenchman initially arrived at Old Trafford back in 2015 but has barely managed to live up to his hefty price tag. Especially in the last couple of years, the attacker has fallen out of favour, under the leadership of Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer.

Martial notably made only 22 league appearances this past season, falling behind the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and even Mason Greenwood in the pecking order. The further arrival of Jadon Sancho should be enough to secure an exit.

While Tottenham is a potential destination, it would be very unwise on Fabio Paratici’s part to splash €50 million for his services. He has clearly struggled to impress in recent seasons, with Premier League’s fast-paced nature of play proving to be difficult for the Frenchman.

His hefty £250k a week demands should also greatly disrupt the harmony of the squad, so it would perhaps be wiser for Tottenham Hotspur to look elsewhere for alternatives.
