The transfer window for the summer officially swings open in Spain in less than a week. So far, Barcelona have not officially made any signings, even though they have been linked to multiple players.

Part of the reason is because they have been unable to bring in revenue that can be directed towards signings. While two crucial economic levers have been activated, the sale of neither has been confirmed yet.

More importantly, they have been unable to offload anyone. However, they may just get their first break as ESPN report that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Barcelona over a loan deal for Clement Lenglet. Barça are hoping that Spurs can convince Lenglet to move to join them.

Barcelona prefer a permanent move for Lenglet, but are more than happy to strike out his salaries off their books, even if it is for a year. This is aided by the fact that Tottenham are ready to pay the majority of Lenglet’s wages.

The Frenchman’s starting spot in the team alongside Gerard Pique has been taken over by Ronald Araujo in the last two seasons.

With Andreas Christensen’s signing all but official, and Barcelona trying to bring in Jules Kounde from Sevilla, Lenglet will be pushed down to Xavi’s fifth or sixth choice.

Ahead of the winter World Cup in Qatar, Lenglet will have a lot of competition in the French national team and has little to no chance of making the cut for the final squad if he does not get minutes.

Consequently, he seems to be open to a move away from Barcelona, even though he has preferred to stay in the last few seasons.

The report also claims that legendary coach Antonio Conte will personally speak to Lenglet to help him reach a decision over his future.
