According to Transfer Market Web, Tottenham are in the market for Bernardo Silva. The Manchester City attacker could be available in the market for a fee of €70 million as the Citizens look to use his sale to fund a move for top target Harry Kane. It has put Spurs on red alert, with new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo desperate to bolster his attacking options.

Bernardo Silva’s Disappointing Season With Manchester City

Bernardo Silva has endured a slight halt in his progress at Manchester City over the past few years. Usually regarded as one of Portugal’s best playmakers, the former AC Monaco superstar has fallen under the shadow of Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and even Riyad Mahrez recently.

It has led to Silva struggling to establish himself as a first-team regular for Man City. Over the last two seasons, his overall game-time at the Etihad has fallen significantly, with the player starting in only 24 league matches last term.

However, his lack of progress at Man City has not deterred the suitors, who are well aware of his versatility and ability to create chances in the final third. Indeed, Bernardo Silva is gifted with technical prowess which makes him an ideal fit for Pep Guardiola’s style of play.

But the Portuguese international is also capable of operating in a high octane press. Moreover, he can play in several positions, including right-wing, attacking midfield and even in false-nine, if required. It combines well with his proficiency in set pieces and the ability to thread key passes in and around the penalty area.

Is He A Good Option For Tottenham?

Tottenham Hotspur have a strong creative department with players like Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Son Heung-Min and Bryan Gil determined to impress new coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, it is difficult to imagine Bernardo Silva finding it any easier to get regular game-time in north London. Although his pedigree at Man City will certainly be enough to help him become a first-team regular right from the beginning, he might be pressurised by the competition around him.

A fee of €70 million might also be a massive risk for a club like Tottenham, especially if they can keep hold of Harry Kane in the summer. The Lilywhites are in immediate need of a centre-back or even two as Nuno looks to build a new core in his defensive setup.

A move for Bernardo Silva, therefore, will largely depend on whether Spurs can sanction the sale of unwanted players like Dele Alli, Steven Bergwijn and perhaps even Ryan Sessegnon. And until they do, the Portuguese international is too big of a gamble for Fabio Paratici.
