In a recent report, The Guardian mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are eager to recruit Manchester United defender Harry Maguire this summer. It has been revealed that Spurs are showing interest in securing the services of the English centre-back.

Maguire’s Decent Form At Old Trafford This Season

Maguire has played a sporadic role in Man United’s squad this season as he has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in Erik ten Hag’s first XI. The England international has been involved in 31 matches for the Red Devils during this campaign in multiple competitions.

The 30-year-old has been a dominant presence at the back based on his average of 0.5 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from inside his half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 85.4% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Old Trafford will expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, it won’t be easy for Spurs to arrange a move to sign Maguire on the cheap in this off-season.

Should Tottenham Hotspur Snap Maguire Up This Summer?

Maguire can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition and can make a few timely interceptions for his side as well. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and is a tidy passer of the ball as well when he is playing with confidence on the field.

However, the English centre-back has sometimes been guilty of being inconsistent and lacks the pace to track back when left isolated with the opposition attackers inside his half.

Still, Maguire will no doubt be a shrewd signing for Tottenham Hotspur this summer as he will bring more bite and steel to their backline. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the North London club next season.

At 30, Maguire has still got a lot of football left in him and could help Spurs get back to challenging for a top-four spot in the Premier League over the next couple of years. Therefore, Tottenham should focus on snapping the England international up when the transfer window commences later this month.
