In a recent report, Express Daily narrowed down four World Cup performers that Tottenham Hotspur could sign when the transfer market commences in January. One of them is the defensive midfield ace that helped Morocco reach the semi-finals and create history. Sofyan Amrabat is again being linked to the Lilywhites as Antonio Conte delves into the market to get his signature this time around. However, it wouldn’t be easy convincing Fiorentina, his current club, into selling him as they are in no mood to sanction his exit.

Amrabat’s Campaign With Fiorentina So Far This Season

After enduring a difficult spell with La Viola last season Amrabat has regained his confidence in the central areas of the pitch as he has had more play-time compared to his previous campaign. The defensive midfielder has appeared in 18 matches for the Italian outfit this season becoming a key member of Vincenzo Italiano’s side.

The Moroccan sensation has been reliable and consistent in the holding midfield position after averaging 1.2 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 0.5 clearances per game in Serie A. He has also been tidy with the ball distribution as evident from his pass completion rate of 90.8% in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).

Amrabat’s contract with the Italian side lasts until July 2024, so it makes sense for the Serie A club to hold on to him, especially after his impressive performances in the 2022 FIFA World Cup which has garnered a lot of attention.

Can Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte Convince Fiorentina Into Selling Him In January?

Sofyan Amrabat’s lack of game-time under new head coach Italiano earlier this year posed a few questions about his long-term future at the club but the recent showings will definitely rule out the possibility of him only providing cover from the bench. However, he fell down the pecking order in the previous campaign which led Tottenham Hotspur to take advantage of the situation and wrap up a deal for the 25-year-old last summer. The deal fell through as Fiorentina decided to hold on to him for another season and they’ve certainly made the right choice as he has picked himself up and performed exceptionally in the greatest competition in the football world.

Questions regarding his credibility to play at the highest level have now been answered in the most splendid way from his recent showing and he’s now the target of several clubs which includes the Lilywhites. However, convincing the Italian side to sanction his exit might be more difficult now than ever as they would certainly demand a hefty price in order to sell him. This would definitely cut down Antonio Conte’s budget which he could utilise in bringing decent reinforcements for the problem areas. So Conte would be wise to focus on resolving the problems that lie in the attacking department instead of prioritising a deal that has very little chance of taking place.
