The Argentine suffered the knock while on international duty last month.

During a pre-match press conference for Thursday's Premier League clash with Brentford, Conte said: "The news is not positive. Not good.

"The injury is serious. I think it'll take time to see him again. Surely next year, we need to check his injury week by week but the injury is serious.

"Now he's trying to recover but he needs a long time. Time to recover. It's a pity because you know he's an important player for us. The injury is very serious.

"Next year – January, February, I don't know but for sure in 2020 he has finished playing. For this month. We have to wait and recover well but the injury is serious."
