Maguire’s Difficult Season At Manchester

The 30-year-old has experienced a tough campaign at Old Trafford as he has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in Erik ten Hag’s first XI. Maguire has made 31 appearances for the Red Devils this season in multiple competitions

The English sensation deserves some credit for averaging 0.5 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from the back based on his pass completion rate of 85.4% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Mancunian club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, Spurs will have to make a good offer if they want to convince Man United to part ways with their prized asset in this off-season.

Is Maguire A Decent Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?

Maguire is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch when he is playing regularly and with confidence. The English talent can scan the danger quickly and doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot. He can use his strong 1.94m frame to win a few aerial duels at the back and excels at playing his way out from the back.

However, Maguire has often been guilty of being inconsistent with his performances due to the limited game time he has received at Old Trafford this season. Thus, Spurs could lure him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if they are willing to offer him a regular starting spot at the North London club next season.

At 30, Maguire has still got a few good years left in him which makes him a good fit for Tottenham in the short-term. He has what it takes to help Spurs challenge for a top-four spot once again next season but won’t be a long-term solution to their defensive problems.
