In a recent report, Foot Mercato stated that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on recruiting Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo. It has been claimed that Spurs are hoping to bring the French centre-back to North London in this January transfer window.

Todibo’s Impressive Form In Ligue 1 This Season

Todibo is enjoying a decent campaign at the French club as he has put in some solid displays at the centre of their defence. The 24-year-old has featured in 28 matches for Nice this season, picking up two assists in the process across all fronts.

The Cayenne-born talent has been a dominant presence inside his half based on his average of 1.9 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.2 clearances per game in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 90.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at the French club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Spurs would have to launch a big offer if they want to acquire the services of the French defensive ace in this ongoing winter transfer window.

Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Move In For Todibo?

Todibo is a tough-tackling defender who can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and excels at playing his way out from the back. Standing at 1.90m, the French talent can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team.

We can expect Todibo to bring more bite and steel to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s defensive department. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

At 24, the best is yet to come from Todibo which makes him a worthy target for Spurs to pursue this year. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.

Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting Todibo, so Postecoglu should focus on moving in for him in this January transfer period as he would help the North London club challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons.
