In a recent report, French news outlet Midi Libre mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are in the running for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi this summer. It has been claimed that Spurs are eyeing a move to land the French forward during this summer transfer window.

Wahi’s Decent Goal-Scoring Record In French Football

Wahi put in a run of impressive displays as the focal point of Montpellier’s attack in the previous campaign. The French talent deserves a ton of credit for scoring 19 goals and picking up six assists in 33 appearances for his current club last season across all fronts.

The 20-year-old was a decent performer in the final third as he averaged 1.9 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. However, he lacked quality when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 70.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Montpellier is set to expire in the summer of 2025. Hence, Spurs will have to make a convincing offer if they want to lure Wahi to North London in this off-season.

What Will Wahi Add To Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu’s Team?

Wahi excels at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has got the vision to engineer some decent chances in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball as well.

Wahi is primarily a centre-forward but can also operate as a right-winger if asked to do so. However, the French sensation has to find a way to improve his ball distribution up top.

We can expect Wahi to add more goals to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He might even help the North London outfit push for a top-four finish in the Premier League next season.

However, Wahi is yet to prove his worth outside his homeland and might need some time to settle into life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Still, there is no denying that he has got the potential to become a future star at the highest level. Therefore, Spurs would do well to get him on board before the end of this transfer window.
