In a recent report, Football.London mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to re-sign Sporting CP winger Marcus Edwards. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move to bring the English wide player back to North London this summer.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a decent campaign at the Portuguese club as he managed to produce a string of impressive performances for them in the final third. Edwards scored six times and picked up nine assists in 44 matches for Sporting CP last season in all competitions.

The London-born talent caught the eye at times on the right flank and did well to average 1.3 shots, 1.8 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in Liga Portugal. He has even distributed possession well in the opponent’s half after completing 80.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Portuguese football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Sporting will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, it won’t be easy for Spurs to re-sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.

What Will Edwards Add To Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu’s Team?

Edwards is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field. He can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range. The English attacker is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also operate as a left-winger or play in the number ten position if told to do so.

We can expect Edwards to add more firepower to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He already knows the North London club well from his time with them as a youth player and won’t take much time to adjust to life in the English capital.

At 25, Edwards is about to enter his prime which makes him a decent choice for Spurs to consider this summer. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in Premier League football. Still, Tottenham would be wise to go all out to get him on board as they look to bolster their attack ahead of the new campaign.
