According to Fichajes, Tottenham have expressed interest in Florian Wirtz. The Lilywhites are among a number of top clubs across Europe who are monitoring the Bayer Leverkusen starlet. Spurs’ technical director Fabio Paratici is looking for a young attacker to juice up his offensive unit, and Wirtz has been identified as an ideal target. However, the club faces stiff competition from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.

Florian Wirtz: A Star In The Making?

Florian Wirtz has lit up the Bundesliga over the past 12 months with his performances for Bayer Leverkusen. He enjoyed his breakthrough campaign last season, scoring five goals while registering six assists, helping Die Werkself qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

An attacking midfielder by trade, Wirtz is likened to former Leverkusen super talent Julian Brandt. He is versatile enough to feature in both central and wide areas of the pitch and generally likes to dribble his way across half-spaces.

The 18-year-old has a sharp eye for open spaces and is able to rotate possession quickly in the final third. He also has an eye for goal, having been involved in five goals in just three Bundesliga matches.

Wirtz’s performances across Bundesliga have made him one of the talented players in his age group, on par with other Bundesliga talents such as Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala. The youngster even made his Germany debut in the recent international break, featuring in all three games and registering an assist in the win over Armenia.

An Ideal Signing For Tottenham?

Tottenham Hotspur‘s desire to sign Florian Wirtz is hardly surprising as the German is one of the most talented emerging players across Europe. From a tactical perspective though, his potential move to North London would pose a lot of questions.

For one, the Lilywhites already have too many playmakers in Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele. It is apparent that the latter does not have any future under Nuno Espirito Santo, but Lo Celso and Alli are still considered key members of the first-team

The arrival of Wirtz, in that regard, might see the club offload at least two of these three attacking-minded midfielders as Paratici continues his squad overhaul after being appointed in the summer.

However, it is fair to point out that at the age of just 18, Wirtz needs much more experience at the highest level of football before he can settle into an entirely different tactical setup of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Not to mention, Tottenham have no realistic chance of snapping up the teenager, who is attracting interest from clubs like Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
