Tottenham Hotspur are among clubs exploring the option to sign Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel in the January transfer window.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Spurs are in “direct talks” with Tel’s management.
The 19-year-old striker is a highly-rated young talent, and he is being targeted by both Arsenal and Chelsea. Tottenham are also in the mix, but Spurs have other targets, such as Tyler Dibling, as per the Daily Mail.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is looking to add depth in the forward areas. Tottenham are missing Dominic Solnake, James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, and Timo Werner due to injuries, and they badly need some players in the attacking areas.
Tel has been included in Bayern’s starting line-up against Slovan Bratislava, but he is likely to leave this month. Bayern are ready to sanction a loan deal for the young forward.
Plettenberg wrote: “Tottenham are definitely very interested in Mathys Tel and are now in direct talks with Tel’s management! … after Tel decided he wants to leave Bayern. No decision yet. Open race.”
Tel wants to join a club where he will get regular games. With a host of players currently out injured, Tottenham can tempt him with the opportunity of regular football.
Postecoglou insisted that while nothing is imminent at the moment, it does not mean that Spurs are not working on several deals.
The north London club have been linked AS Monaco forward Breel Embolo, while they have also opened talks to sign Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa.
Tel would be a superb signing for Spurs, but it won’t be easy to convince him to join them ahead of other suitors.
Spurs have signed Antonin Kinsky and Min-hyeok Yang this month. Yang has joined Championship side Queens Park Rangers on loan for the rest of the season.
