Tottenham handed Frenkie de Jong transfer update amid huge double injury concern

A round-up of the latest Tottenham news, including updates on Frenkie de Jong, a double injury concern and Japhet Tanganga.

Frenkie de Jong update

Tottenham continue to be linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, ahead of the summer transfer window. However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the possibility of a deal seems unlikely.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, he said: “There have been lots of rumours about Frenkie de Jong lately guys, but I can tell you that Barcelona will try to extend his contract in the next months. They still believe in Frenkie and there’s no news on the player side so far regarding wanting to leave the club.”

De Jong had previously been rumoured with a switch to Manchester United, but ultimately pushed to stay with the Blaugrana. Given Barca’s recent financial struggles, it remains to be seen whether an approach from Tottenham could change the situaiton.

Tottenham double injury worry

Tottenham have been handed a fresh double injury concern ahead of their clash against Wolves. It comes following open training, where two key stars in Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie appeared to be absent from the session.

Live training at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was available to watch on the Tottenham YouTube channel as the team gear up for their next match. The two absentees could be a huge miss if they aren’t available, though it remains to be seen how serious their injuries could be.

Japhet Tanganga claim

Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga has claimed that former stars Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen were inspirations for him while they were at the club. The youngster is currently on-loan with Championship outfit Millwall, in hopes of gaining valuable experience.

Speaking about his breakthrough at Spurs and the impact of Alderweireld and Vertonghen, Tanganga told Sky Sports: “They were big helps to me when I was coming through, you know, they spoke to me a lot. Coming in at such a young age and stuff, they were really there to help me.

“Just like working under those top managers, I worked with some top players in my position or in other positions that I could watch how professional they were, what they did in my position and take that and use it in my game.”
