According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their interest in Gent attacker Gift Orban, who has previously poked fun at their rivals Arsenal.

The 21-year-old made a great impact for Belgium outfit Gent after joining them from Norweigan side Stabaek earlier this year.

In his first 24 appearances for Gent, he’s grabbed 22 goals and two assists. He’s also made a promising start to the 2023/24 season as he has scored in each of his first two games.

Man Utd were heavily linked with Orban earlier this year and he caused a stir in May when he jokingly indicated that he “doesn’t really like Arsenal”.

“Playing in a big league. At a club where I feel comfortable and where I play,” Orban said.

“The Premier League is my ultimate dream. Manchester United, Liverpool, or Manchester City (laughs).

“I don’t really like Arsenal that much – it’s like they don’t want to win titles. They play and sell players – that’s it. I want to go somewhere where they win prizes.”

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano later clarified that the forward was joking as he has “utmost respect for Arsenal”.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri is now reporting that Spurs are “in contact” with Gent with Orban. He added.

“Spurs could go as high as €30M (including bonuses) according to the latest oral discussions undertaken with their Belgian counterparts.

“The profile of the Nigerian striker has been validated by Ange Postecoglou.

“The green light to send the written offer is obviously linked to the Harry Kane affair.

“The English are anticipating the market by paying €30m in 2023 than have to offer the double once Orban has exploded in an intermediate league… wait and see.”

Spurs obviously feel that this is a potential bargain deal with them expecting Orban’s value to rapidly rise over the next 12 months.

Regarding Kane, he is being targeted by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, who are in the market for Robert Lewandowski’s long-term replacement.

The Daily Telegraph are reporting that he ‘will call time on Bayern Munich’s bid to sign him if the German club cannot agree a deal with Tottenham Hotspur this week’.

The Spurs forward ‘is adamant he will not leave Tottenham once the new Premier League season starts and has set a deadline of the end of this week for any move to be agreed’, while a new offer for him from Bayern is considered ‘likely’.
