Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur alerted as Atletico Madrid put Joao Felix for sale

According to Shay Lugassi, the chief editor of Barca Times, on Twitter (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur have been made aware of a market opportunity as Atletico Madrid have put Joao Felix on sale as of now. The English side could be interested in his services for that very reason, with a potential swap deal being mooted this summer.

Atletico has offered Felix to several clubs across Europe after Diego Simeone agreed to place him in the market. The forward has not met the expectations in which he was signed from Benfica back in 2019, which may have possibly been the cause of this situation.

That is despite Felix enjoying his best-ever season with Atleti in the previous campaign, which came to a premature end because of an unfortunate injury. The prospect of signing the attacker has emerged in Tottenham’s plans after they have been provided with this latest update.

Felix, suitable for Spurs?

We should only decide to chase after the Portuguese international if Antonio Conte gives his approval regarding this matter. Perhaps Felix could prove to become a clear target for us, considering how attacking reinforcements are necessary at this moment.

After all, we lack a backup option for Harry Kane in our ranks, and Felix can be a great option to instil quality and depth in that position. However, one may wonder whether the latter would agree to play a bit-part role which does raise questions over a potential move to N17.

Perhaps Felix could consider a potential move to North London an attractive proposition if we can free up some spots in the team. That could be a possibility looking at how Steven Bergwijn has already expressed his desire to leave Conte’s side this summer.

Lucas Moura could also join Bergwijn in the exit doors, which would mean that Felix can earn more game time, especially with the five substitutions rule change. However, his price tag could potentially be concerning, considering how the Spanish giants paid a massive £114million to sign him.

Felix would probably not cost the same sum, having failed to hit the heights he was expected to reach since the move. Moreover, the winding down contract would potentially play a part in reducing his valuation. Even so, we may find it difficult to pay a sum in cash due to that huge investment.

Fortunately, an exchange deal between Felix and Giovani Lo Celso has been touted to be on the cards. Simeone is a fan of Lo Celso, and the midfielder has been linked with a move to Wanda Metropolitano. Whether that will take place or not remains to be seen.
