Tottenham Hotspur need additions in key areas of the pitch to avoid the kind of disappointing season they are currently enduring.
Spurs are 13th in the Premier League standings. A combination of injuries and underperforming players has scuppered their hopes of challenging for a top four spot.
One of the most disappointing of the bunch is on-loan forward Timo Werner.
The German international has been woeful this season and was singled out by manager Ange Postecoglou after the draw with Rangers in the Europa League.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Werner will return to RB Leipzig this summer as Spurs refuse to activate his €12 million buy option.
The 29-year-old does not want to move to another Bundesliga club. Premier League and Major League Soccer (MLS) sides are considering making moves for Werners.
However, his current salary at Leipzig is around €10m per year, which could be a stumbling block.
Injuries and poor form have kept Werner out of the Tottenham starting XI for weeks. Postecoglou has used him sporadically since his anonymous showing against Newcastle United in January.
The Tottenham hierarchy cannot say this was a scouting error. Extending Werner’s loan after his underwhelming stint last season was not the wisest decision.
Spurs have already atoned for that error by signing Wilson Odobert. The potential addition of Mathys Tel permanently this summer also bolsters the attack.
Tottenham need to plug other holes across their squad as they bid to bounce back from a forgettable 2024/25 campaign.
