Tottenham Hotspur supporters would hold ‘protests’ and start ‘an online petition’ if head coach Antonio Conte lures Juventus star Wojciech Szczesny to Hotspur Way, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

Although Spurs spent close to £150million during the summer transfer window, Conte will be presented with another opportunity to bolster his squad in January.

What’s the latest news involving Szczesny?

According to 90min, Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny has been offered to Tottenham by intermediaries.

The report suggests Spurs are not actively looking to sign the Poland international, who was named in his homeland’s World Cup squad and is currently in Qatar, but they have not shut the door on the possibility.

It comes after it emerged that Conte is keen on Szczesny and a summer move could be on the cards as Juventus are not looking to put a new contract offer on the table.

The 32-year-old, who joined the Serie A giants from Tottenham’s arch-rivals Arsenal in 2017, will enter the final 18 months of his £200,000-per-week contract at the turn of the year.

Szczesny has made 13 appearances since the season got underway, keeping seven clean sheets in the process.

What has Michael Bridge said about Szczesny?

Bridge understands that Szczesny is widely disliked by the Tottenham fanbase and, as a result, he would be shocked if a deal came to fruition.

The Sky Sports reporter even believes the supporters could publicly show their disapproval of the switch if the goalkeeper returns to north London.

Bridge told GIVEMESPORT: “This is a guy that hates the club and the fans don’t like him either. It would go down as one of the most surprising signings and, in this day and age, nothing should surprise you in football.

“There would be protests and there would be an online petition from fans because he’s made his feelings clear that he’s an Arsenal man.

“I would be stunned and, of all my years in football and 15 years at Sky, if I announced that transfer, it would probably be the most shocked I’ve ever been in football transfers.”

Did Tottenham Hotspur sign Moussa Sissoko on transfer deadline day in 2016?

Yes No

Why is Szczesny disliked by the Tottenham fanbase?

Not only did Szczesny make 181 appearances for arch-rivals Arsenal, but he has previously revelled in Tottenham’s failures.

Back in 2016, when Spurs’ 5-1 defeat to Newcastle United on the final day of the season allowed the Gunners to finish above them in the Premier League, the shot-stopper headed onto Instagram to goad the neighbours’ fans.

Szczesny also took to Facebook to post ‘Wonderful scenes at The Etihad…’ when Tottenham suffered a 6-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City in November 2013.

With that being the case, Conte – who celebrated a year in charge of Spurs earlier this month – would be better off moving onto alternative targets.
