According to Daily Mail, Wolves have joined Tottenham in Carlos Vinicius’ pursuit. The forward is currently plying his trade at Spurs on a season-long loan deal from Benfica. However, he is unlikely to return to Portugal with Wolves and Tottenham both interested in prolonging his stay in England, although the Lilywhites are not willing to meet Benfica’s €42 million demands.

Carlos Vinicius’ Struggles At Spurs This Season

Carlos Vinicius initially joined Tottenham last season in a season-long loan deal from Benfica. He was brought in to offer backup for star striker Harry Kane and potentially become the club’s number one in the earlier rounds of the UEFA Europa League as well as the domestic cup competitions.

Vinicius started out quite well impressing the onlookers with his performances in cup matches. As we head towards the final stretch of the campaign, Vinicius’ tally of ten goals and three assists in 22 competitive matches for Spurs might seem quite an appealing total, especially considering the fact most of his league opportunities originated from substitute appearances.

However, his performances in the Premier League also suggests that the forward does lack a certain element in his game. When it comes to penetrating the opposition lines, the Brazilian is often quite ineffective as he is not gifted with a lot of quality on the ball.

Vinicius is quite versatile when it comes to making movements in and around the final third. However, his lack of quality against tough oppositions should be a cause for concern for Jose Mourinho.

From a stylistic sense, Vinicius is more similar to players like Timo Werner or Anthony Martial rather than a fully-fledged replacement option for Harry Kane. It might make him a tactically incompatible figure in Mourinho’s setup going forward, which is why it would perhaps be a wiser option for Tottenham to shift their attention elsewhere.
