Tottenham to battle West Ham United for Chelsea ace Olivier Giroud

According to reports in Italian media, as carried by the Express, Tottenham and West Ham United are set to battle it out with Inter Milan for the signing of Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud in January.

The 34-year-old has been with Chelsea since January 2018, having joined from our rivals Arsenal. And while he has never been a regular starter at Stamford Bridge, the Frenchman has proven to be a valuable squad member over the years, chipping in with vital goals at crucial junctures.

However, following the arrival of Timo Werner in the summer transfer window, Giroud has dropped down the pecking order at the club. And with his place in the France national team for the Euros under threat, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is said to be pondering over a January transfer. (h/t Express)

And, as per reports in Italy (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in making a move for the 34-year-old centre-forward.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho strengthened the squad in the centre-forward department in the summer with the loan signing of Carlos Vinicius from SL Benfica. However, the Brazilian hasn’t quite been able to hit the ground running and is being eased into things.

But considering the packed schedule and the fact that we are competing on multiple fronts, adding more depth to the centre-forward slot wouldn’t be the worst idea. And Giroud, considering his proven pedigree and trophy-winning experience, would be a handy addition.

However, we will have to contend with competition from Inter Milan, whose manager Antonio Conte was the one who brought Giroud to Chelsea. In addition, West Ham United have also entered the race for the signing of the veteran striker. (h/t Express)
