Tottenham FA Cup tie in doubt as Wycombe Wanderers hit with Covid outbreak

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur’s fourth-round FA Cup tie against Wycombe Wanderers is in jeopardy after the Championship side was hit with a Covid outbreak within the squad.

Tottenham were drawn against the Chairboys for the fourth round after we defeated Marine AFC 5-0 in the previous stage earlier this month. The tie has been pencilled in to be played on the 25th of January.

However, there are now doubts surrounding the clash after Wycombe reported positive test results on Friday. This resulted in their Championship clash against QPR at the Kiyan Prince Stadium getting postponed. An unspecified number of players and coaching staff have entered self-isolation. EFL and Premier League rules state that those who test positive must self-isolate for a period of 10 days in line with Government guidance, and produce two negative results before returning. Wycombe issued a statement confirming the development.

“The circumstances surrounding the postponements will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL regulations.”

With Tottenham’s game against Wycombe scheduled to play exactly ten days, there is now a chance of the contest being postponed. Should it happen, it will be the third game of our season to be pushed forward.

Our Premier League games against Fulham and Aston Villa have had to be rescheduled because of the pandemic and another fixture change would provide Jose Mourinho with more headache.

It remains to be seen how this situation develops over the next week. We wish the Wycombe players and staff a speedy recovery.
