Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire, according to the Daily Mail.
The defender is not keen on leaving Old Trafford but wants game time ahead of next season, and the North Londoners can give him what he wants.
Maguire found game time hard to come by this season, with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez firmly ahead of him in the pecking order.
Also, when Maguire got his chances, he did not look convincing.
After hiring Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach today, Spurs are pushing forward with their transfer plans for next season.
Spurs want to rebuild their backline after conceding 63 goals in 38 Premier League games this season.
They allowed in the most goals among the top 14 sides in the division. Even 17th place Everton conceded less than them.
Clement Lenglet will return to Barcelona after his loan, while the future of Davinson Sanchez remains unclear.
Also, there is uncertainty about the future of Joe Rondon, who will return from his loan spell at Rennes.
Tottenham have identified Maguire as the man to address these problems. He has a year left on his deal, and United are willing to sell.
United boss Erik ten Hag is ready to let his captain leave and join their league rivals.
Spurs have enquired into Maguire’s availability and are ready to step up and make an offer for the England international.
Postecoglou’s appointment will likely see Spurs accelerate talks for the defender with all their efforts now on signing the right players for the 57-year-old manager. He will have a crucial say in transfer targets and signings.
Furthermore, the reports state that Spurs striker Harry Kane would appreciate a move for Maguire. The pair are friends.
Apart from Maguire, Tottenham have Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi on their radar.
Also, they are targeting James Maddison and a keeper to replace the outgoing Hugo Lloris. They want Brentford’s David Raya to replace Lloris.
