Tottenham transfer news – Anthony Gordon

There have been a couple of recent reports that have claimed that Tottenham retain an interest in Gordon after chasing him during the summer.

According to football.london, Spurs are monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation at Everton ahead of the January transfer window.

Elsewhere, an article from The Sun states that Tottenham are weighing up a move for Gordon, who the Toffees value at £60m.

All of the above comes after Sky Sports reported during the summer that Conte wanted both Gordon and Richarlison, who did end up moving to Hotspur Way, in a double deal.

What has Paul Brown said about Anthony Gordon and Tottenham?

Brown has told GIVEMESPORT that Conte is a huge admirer of Gordon but doubts the Italian and Tottenham will get into a bidding war with Chelsea for the Everton star.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “Tottenham’s interest in Anthony Gordon has never gone away. Conte, in particular, really likes this guy – sees something special in him. The issue for them was that they did not value Gordon any more than about 30 million in the summer.

“His value then skyrocketed when Chelsea came in and let it be known quite publicly that they would be willing to pay a whole lot more than that. I cannot see Spurs matching the sort of value that Chelsea have put on him.”

Anthony Gordon’s stats for Everton

As per Transfermarkt, Gordon has made 15 appearances and scored three goals this season. The England U21 international is yet to provide an assist, but he is not the most productive player, which is more than understandable given his age.

Last term, Gordon managed to register just four times in 40 appearances, so it is an area of his game where there is obviously room for improvement.

It would make any decision to spend £60m on him now, with the player not being the finished article, a questionable one.

Ultimately, if that is the fee Everton want, which looks to be the case, Tottenham should probably think twice before getting their chequebook out. It is a lot of money for a youngster who is still developing.
