Tottenham manager Antonio Conte wants to bring in an attacking midfielder before the transfer window closes, according to The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare.

Another centre-back could also be on the agenda, but Eccleshare says attack is the area the Spurs boss is currently looking to address.

What is the latest transfer news involving Tottenham?

In terms of a No.10 who Tottenham could bring to Hotspur Way, the north London club continue to be linked with a move for AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo.

As per 90min, Spurs are in talks with Roma over a potential deal for the 23-year-old. It is believed that it would take a fee of over €50m (£41.7m) to convince the Italian side to sell him this summer.

While he often played as a right winger last season, Zaniolo has been deployed in the No.10 role 84 times in his career, according to Transfermarkt.

Since joining Roma from Inter Milan, the Italy international has made 111 appearances and scored 22 goals for the Giallorossi.

What has Eccleshare said about Tottenham’s transfer plans for the remainder of the window?

Eccleshare has told GIVEMESPORT that Conte would like to sign an attacking midfielder and has also not ruled out a move for another central defender.

Speaking to GMS, The Athletic journalist said: “I think he’ll be pretty pleased with what they’ve done. Obviously, they’ve brought in six first-team players, which is a lot. There’s still a bit of work to go in his mind.

“An attacking midfielder is something Conte wants to bring in, maybe another centre-back if that opportunity presented itself, though that’s more if it did. They’ve brought in [Clement] Lenglet already, so it’s not essential.”

Who else could Tottenham target?

Leicester City’s James Maddison is another No.10 who Tottenham could make a move for before the transfer window closes.

Ben Jacobs recently told GMS that the 25-year-old is a player Conte likes “a lot”. However, his price tag could be a problem.

According to Sky Sports, the Foxes value Maddison at £60m, and it does not look like they will settle for anything less after Newcastle United reportedly had a £50m bid turned down for the player.

It is a lot of money, as is Zaniolo’s price tag, while Conte’s set-up does not even employ a central attacking midfielder. Nevertheless, it seems that the Italian is keen on adding a No.10 to his squad for the 2022/23 season.
