Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Djed Spence has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The 25-year-old defender first joined Spurs from Middlesbrough in 2022 but had to wait until late 2024 to become a regular in the first team.
Spence made his full Premier League debut in Tottenham’s 5-0 victory over Southampton last December and quickly established himself as a reliable option.
He went on to make 35 appearances across the 2024-25 campaign, scoring his first Premier League goal in February during a 4-1 win against Ipswich Town.
His strong form earned him a nomination for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award later that month.
Spence also played an important role in Tottenham’s successful Europa League campaign, which ended with them lifting the trophy in May.
The right-back was also trusted to start in the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain last week, where he operated on the opposite flank as a left wing-back in the penalty shoot-out defeat.
He featured again on Saturday, playing the full 90 minutes of Tottenham’s 3-0 Premier League victory over Burnley.
The club announced on their official website that they were delighted to tie the full-back down to new terms, rewarding his breakthrough year in London.
It is the second time in less than 12 months that Spence has signed a contract extension, having previously inking a four-year deal in October 2024.
His latest contract comes as new manager Thomas Frank looks to shape the squad ahead of his first full season in charge.
Before establishing himself in the first team, the London-born defender spent time on loan with Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa.
Those loan spells helped him gain valuable experience after struggling to break into the Spurs side in his first two seasons at the club.
He has now become a dependable member of the squad, particularly during the second half of last season when he filled in at left-back following Destiny Udogie’s injury.
