Tottenham have made headway in negotiations with Middlesbrough for Djed Spence and hope to complete a deal by the time pre-season training starts on Monday, 90min understands.

Spurs have been locked in talks for the wing-back for much of June, though have always been confident of completing a deal.

90min understands the north London club are nearing an agreement with Boro to pay roughly £15m up front for the 21-year-old.

Spence spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Nottingham Forest and played a huge role in helping them achieve promotion from the Championship via the play-offs. Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder also recently admitted that he expected the England youth international to join Spurs.

Tottenham want to complete three signings by the time Antonio Conte's non-internationals return for pre-season training at Hotspur Way on Monday - Spence, Everton forward Richarlison, and Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet.

Brazil international Richarlison has undergone a medical in his home country ahead of a £60m move to Spurs, while an initial loan for Lenglet is expected to be confirmed soon.

Should all three arrive by the end of this week, then Spurs will have uncharacteristically completed six signings before the start of pre-season. Conte's side have already confirmed the additions of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma so far this window.

While Tottenham players who did not feature in June internationals will reconvene at Hotspur Way on Monday, their other stars will return at a later date before they jet off to South Korea for a pre-season tour.
