Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that the two players who tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday actually returned false positive tests.
“Following a number of reports regarding the health of our players, the Club would like provide clarity to events of the past 48 hours,” read a statement released by the club prior to Sunday’s trip to Newcastle.
“After further analysis following Premier League protocol, two players – whose names will not be disclosed due to medical confidentiality – returned false positive tests for COVID-19 on Friday after returning from international duty.”
According to reports, the unnamed players tested positive for the virus on Thursday before testing negative when they were re-tested on Friday.
A third round of testing on Saturday then also produced a negative result, meaning both players have been cleared to play at St James’ Park on Sunday.
