Tottenham boss issues positive Giovani Lo Celso injury update

Speaking to the club’s official website, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has provided an update on the situation of Giovani Lo Celso and it is good news.

The Argentine playmaker has not played for Tottenham since injuring his hamstring back in December last year in a game against Leicester City. Since then, the 24-year-old has gone on to miss as many as 16 games across all competitions.

But, following Tuesday’s training session, Jose Mourinho shared a positive update on Lo Celso’s situation, which will come as music to the ears of the fans.

“Gio is not coming back, but coming back to training with the team, which is a big step and a very important one. Even today he was training for the first time, of course, with lots of protection in relation to what he could or could not do. “But that beautiful relationship between Gio and the ball is magnificent, so it’s good news. It’s maybe a couple of weeks to play, but let’s say if everything goes well, we are on the countdown.”

While Mourinho insists that Lo Celso is likely to take a couple of weeks more to be back playing, his return to training is a big boost and a major step in the right direction. Tottenham have struggled to produce good results of late and having his creativity back on the field could make a difference.

Lo Celso joined Tottenham in the summer of 2019, initially on loan, before making the transfer permanent in January last year. He has steadily grown into an important player for the club. Prior to his injury, the 24-year-old had scored five goals and set up one more in 19 games.
