Conte has previously said there is a big gap between his side and Chelsea, but now admits his team are better than they were last season.

"If we are to reduce the gap I need to work with the team," said Conte.

"Last season we played [against Chelsea] three games after only two months since I have arrived. Now we have had seven months and a pre-season. I think we have implemented the work. As a team we are better than last season."

"The transfer market is for us and for Chelsea but the most important thing is to not only sign players for competition but to improve the quality. Chelsea is one of the best teams in England and two years ago they won the Champions League. I was there, I know which club we are talking about and the investment they make every season."

Spurs scored four in their opening game victory over Southampton, without stars Harry Kane or Son Heung-min getting on the scoresheet, but Conte says his side showed "different solutions".

"Harry and Sonny are vital," said Conte.

"Don't forget last season, Sonny scored 23 and was the top scorer in the league and Harry scored 17. We need them to score but, at the same time, we are able to find a different solutions with the way we attack.

"A team with ambition needs to have many solutions to score a goal. We have to show solidity because if you want to reach good achievement, it is very important to have a good balance offensively and defensively."
