Tottenham entered into talks with Maurizio Sarri after Mourinho sacking

According to Football Italia (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur began talks with former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri immediately after Jose Mourinho was sacked by the club.

Tottenham have been in hot pursuit of a new manager following the sacking of Mourinho last month. While Ryan Mason has been named in charge on an interim basis, the search for a new permanent manager has been going on with full fervour, although it has not yielded the desired result as of yet.

Indeed, Julian Nagelsmann, who was a target, has signed up with Bayern Munich while Erik ten Hag ended up signing a new contract extension with current club AFC Ajax. Ex-Chelsea and Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri is another name that has been mentioned quite heavily of late and, as per the report, Tottenham have been in talks with Italian soon after Jose was relieved of his duties.

Sarri has been out of a job since last year when he left Juventus, after winning the Serie A title with them. Prior to that, he spent a season with Chelsea, during which he achieved a respectable third-place finish alongside the UEFA Europa League triumph.

It is claimed that Sarri is of appeal to Tottenham because of the attacking, possession-based style of play that he likes his teams to play with. That is something which is a prerequisite for the club as they look for a new manager. Due to the fact, they have been already in talks with Sarri over an appointment since getting rid of Mourinho. The report also goes on to add that our local rivals, Arsenal, are also considering Sarri as a managerial candidate amid pressure on Mikel Arteta following a disappointing campaign.

Apart from Sarri, Tottenham are also considering Brighton & Hove Albion’s Graham Potter for the role, as well as Fulham boss Scott Parker. It remains to be seen who ends up getting the job before next season kicks off.
