Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham target James Maddison has a “decision to make” in 2023

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison is a player that Tottenham Hotspur like, according to journalist Dean Jones, who conveyed the same to GIVEMESPORT (h/t LeicestershireLive).

Newcastle United and Spurs, hence, could be in a battle to sign the England international at the end of the season. The Magpies notably had multiple bids rejected by the Foxes in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

Maddison is on a contract that expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). Hence, at the end of this season, Leicester could be in a situation of great insecurity with Maddison’s situation if he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal.

Should Spurs go for it?

The former Norwich City midfielder has the ability to play as a number 10 and a number 8 and is adept at playing out wide as well. Hence, he would be an asset to most teams, especially given his age.

The 25-year-old is entering the prime years of his career and looks primed to play some of his best football in the next few years. If he does that at N17, Spurs fans would certainly not mind that.

Moreover, the Coventry-born midfielder would tick another box in the homegrown quota for us. But that would be a possibility only if the Lilywhites retain their interest in Maddison in the coming months.

Maddison was not named in manager Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the UEFA Nations League games in September. He only has one senior cap for the Three Lions, which came in a 7-0 European qualifier win against Montenegro in November 2019.
