Tottenham Hotspur to go up against Manchester United for Aberdeen sensation Calvin Ramsay

According to The Sun (h/t ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur have identified Aberdeen wonderkid Calvin Ramsay as a transfer target amidst interest from Manchester United. The youngster broke into the senior side this season, and his performances have not gone unnoticed on the other side of the border.

Man United had scouts monitor Ramsay in Aberdeen’s recent game against Rangers on Tuesday’s. The 18-year-old lasted 74 minutes on the night and gave a good account of himself against the defending Scottish champions.

With the Red Devils making their move, Tottenham will need to raise their game to beat the competition and land their man. Leicester City, Southampton and Leeds United are also monitoring the 18-year-old, which increases the competition that Spurs will need to overcome.

Tottenham are interested in signing Calvin Ramsey.

With just days left in the January transfer window, it remains to be seen if any of the interested clubs would try their chances or not before the market closes. A better approach would be to land Ramsay this month and permit him to remain on loan at Pittodrie for the remainder of the season.

Who is Calvin Ramsay?

The U21 Scotland starlet is a right-back who can also play as a right-sided midfielder when the situation calls for it. That makes him a suitable addition for Antonio Conte’s system that relies on full-backs who can bomb up and down the flanks.

The teenager has played in 20 games this season and has made eight assists across all competitions. Despite it being early days, he has shown enough potential to suggest that he can thrive in the Premier League, given the proper guidance.

The Aberdeen prodigy is a perfect blend of attacking and defensive qualities, making him an exciting talent. His composure, grit and ability to read the game shows there is enough about him for Spurs to take a punt at.

Matt Doherty has failed to live up to the expectations and is a pale shadow of the player he was at Wolverhampton Wanderers. While he enjoyed a good outing in our 3-2 comeback win against Leicester City, the performance was more of an expectation than a continuous trend.

Summer signing, Emerson Royal has not enjoyed much success on the attacking front but has been good defensively. He is, however, far from becoming the two-way presence that Conte seeks in the position.

It might be too much for us to expect Ramsay to come in and perform off the bat in the Premier League. However, given his traits, the youngster could develop into a reliable full-back for Tottenham in the years to come. But first, we have to win the race to land him.
