According to reports, Celtic ‘believe Ange Postecoglou is a leading candidate’ for the vacant manager’s job at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have been without a permanent head coach since Antonio Conte left in March. Ryan Mason was the club’s interim boss at the end of the season but he will be replaced in the coming weeks.

The 57-year-old has helped Celtic lift the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup in back-to-back seasons since taking over in 2021.

and 90min claim they are ‘expected to step up their interest in Postecoglou at the start of June and the Scottish champions believe an approach is forthcoming’. The report adds.

’90min understands Tottenham have carried out their due diligence on Postecoglou of Celtic. The Australian was coy when asked about his future prior to the Hoops’ final Scottish Premiership game of the season. ‘Celtic believe Postecoglou is a leading candidate for the Spurs job and they could receive an approach following this Saturday’s Scottish Cup final against Inverness Caledonian Thistle. ‘Postecoglou currently operates on a 12-month rolling contract, though Celtic are now trying to tie him down to a long-term deal in order to stave off the threat from Spurs. ‘But given his long route to get to this stage of his career, there are fears the 57-year-old could view this as one last chance to manage a major side in the Premier League.’

The report from 90min also points out that Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter are on their ‘shortlist’, while ‘they have been alerted to the possible availability of Wolves’ Julen Lopetegui’.

The Spaniard successfully guided Wolves to safety in 2022/23 but has hinted that he could leave the Premier League club this summer.

“I want to solve the problems. Maybe me or the club aren’t able to solve them 100 per cent, but I think we have to try, for our fans, for our club, for our history and for our future.

“If we want to be demanding in the future we have to demand now with ourselves and with this summer.

“I have a contract and I’ve been here for six months. I’m very happy here and I hope I can continue being happy here.

“But we have a problem and we must be honest and look each other in the eyes to try to solve the problems.

“Maybe not 100 per cent, but maybe 80 per cent, who knows?

“This is all. About my future, I have a contract and we will see what is going to happen, This is football, we don’t know.”
