Former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen has made returning to the club this summer his “priority”, according to Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The 30-year-old spent seven years at Spurs between 2013 and 2020, and could move back to the north London outfit ahead of next season.

Having collapsed on the pitch during last year’s European Championships, Eriksen took seven months out of the game before being handed a short-term deal by Brentford in January.

He went on to impress for the Bees, registering four assists as they comfortably avoided relegation. His spell at the club is now over, and he is considering his options for the 2022/23 campaign.

As things stand, it seems Eriksen is likely to end up at either Manchester United or Tottenham, with the Manchester Evening News recently reporting that the Red Devils are the new favourites to sign the 115-cap international.

This came after a report from Football London, which claimed that Spurs have not followed up on their initial interest in Eriksen yet.

What has Taylor said about Eriksen?

United will be playing in the Europa League next season, while Tottenham are set to make their return to the Champions League.

Taylor does not necessarily think that this will be a deciding factor for Eriksen, but he does believe that the Dane would prefer a move to Spurs over United.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Taylor said: “I think Eriksen may be forced to explore avenues outside of Tottenham, one of which is United. Obviously, they don’t have Champions League football. I believe Eriksen said it’s not essential for him, so that would appear to put United potentially in the driving seat for Eriksen if Tottenham do not back up their interest. I think Spurs are Eriksen’s priority.”

Eriksen’s contract is set to officially expire at the end of the month, and then he will become a free agent.

Given his experience at the top level, having scored 52 Premier League goals, it is not a major surprise that Tottenham and United are both monitoring his situation, but it seems that both teams are weighing up how Eriksen would fit into their respective squads before pushing ahead with a potential transfer.

Therefore, it could still be a while before Eriksen’s next destination becomes clearer, and there is also the possibility that other clubs could start to show more of an interest, and try to sneak in from under Tottenham and United’s noses to land the attacking midfielder.
