Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is “happy” for Youri Tielemans to join Tottenham or another club this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Spurs are one side who the Belgian has been linked with, and Jones says his manager will not get in his way if a King Power exit is what he wants.

What is the latest news involving Tielemans?

Last month, the reliable Fabrizio Romano claimed on his Here We Go podcast that Tottenham were one of many clubs interested in signing Tielemans.

The midfielder is about to enter the final year of his contract, so Antonio Conte could have a good opportunity to sign him.

North London rivals Arsenal, however, currently look to be winning the race for Tielemans.

According to The Sun, the Gunners are closing in on a £40m deal to bring the 25-year-old to the Emirates this summer.

What has Jones said about Tielemans?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Rodgers is open to letting Tielemans go, believing that the midfield maestro, who he has described as an “incredible professional” in the past, has actually peaked.

Speaking to GMS, the football journalist said: “I think the most interesting thing on Tielemans is that I’m told Brendan Rodgers is actually happy for him to move on. He thinks he might have hit his ceiling and not sure he gets much better from here and thinks he can actually be replaced.”

Would Tielemans be a good signing for Tottenham?

Yes. Tielemans is a different profile of midfielder to the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur.

In the middle of the park, he would bring creativity and a real attacking threat to Conte’s side. In Leicester’s squad, he is in the top three players for average key passes made per league game (via WhoScored), while his ability to shoot from long range is also a dangerous weapon.

It was, of course, the Belgium international’s thunderbolt against Chelsea last year that gave the Foxes their first ever FA Cup.

Considering the above, Tielemans could be a really good addition at Hotspur Way. And £40m for a proven, quality midfielder does not sound too bad in this day and age.

Whether Tottenham can beat Arsenal to his signature, though, remains to be seen. Lose their top-four battle against their neighbours, and you suspect that it will be a tricky task.

If Spurs want to keep Conte happy, however, they cannot afford to lose out on too many of the Italian’s targets.
