Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has no future in north London and could be sold to Villarreal, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The Argentina international spent the second half of last season on loan at the Estadio de la Ceramica and has been linked with a permanent move to the La Liga outfit.

What’s the latest news involving Lo Celso?

According to Football Insider, Villarreal were recently in ‘advanced talks’ with Tottenham over a permanent for Lo Celso, who cost £27.2m when he arrived from Real Betis in January 2020.

Lo Celso enjoyed a productive spell in Spain from January onwards, scoring once and assisting once in 22 appearances to help Unai Emery’s side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Despite his improved form, the report states that Spurs were willing to take a loss on what they paid for the 26-year-old, with Villarreal CEO Roig Neguerole confirming their interest in making his loan a permanent one.

He said: “Lo Celso is a player who has been happy here and has made us happy, so we would like to continue together.”

In the meantime, Antonio Conte’s side have been linked with Villarreal ace Pau Torres, and while the two clubs are already apart in their valuation for Lo Celso, Bridge reckons that some sort of deal involving the duo makes sense.

What did Bridge say about Lo Celso?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I like what I’ve seen of Pau Torres and I’m sure there’s a deal to be done with Giovanni Lo Celso.

Villarreal haven’t offered anywhere near what Tottenham want, but they know he’s got no future at Tottenham, and they can pretty much get him, they’re just trying to work out the fee for that one, so that’ll be an interesting one.”

Has Lo Celso played his last game for Tottenham?

He was hardly used by Conte during their three months together from November and January and then completely axed from the squad out of the blue, which underlines where he stands under the Italian’s guidance.

Since Lo Celso’s departure, Spurs have added Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski and Yves Bissouma to the squad, so even if he did return in hope of fighting for a place, he would be some way down the pecking order.

Therefore, it’s best for both parties that Lo Celso leaves the club this summer and after his form for Villarreal, a move to La Liga might be wise.
