Manchester suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.
With key players like Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer sidelined by injuries, manager Ruben Amorim had no choice but to name eight promising youngsters on the bench.
Casemiro was handed his first start of 2025 with Bruno Fernandes alongside him.
Spurs wasted no time, with James Maddison calmly slotting home in the 13th minute after dominating the early proceedings.
United showed some spark in the second half, creating a few decent half-chances, but couldn’t find the elusive goal to get back into the game.
Andre Onana – 4/10
The Cameroon international should have done better when Bergvall fired a shot at him. He parried it to his left, gifting Maddison an easy chance to score.
He later made a couple of comfortable saves.
Noussair Mazraoui – 5/10
He looked calm but was easily turned by Spence for Spurs’ first opportunity after the break. The defender delivered a brilliant cross to Zirkzee in the second half.
Harry Maguire – 6/10
The England international showcased excellent ball distribution with long passes to Hojlund and Dorgu.
Matthijs de Ligt – 5/10
De Ligt surprisingly started at left centre-back in the absence of Lisandro Martinez and Leny Yoro. He should have reacted quicker to the first goal but made decent blocks later.
Diogo Dalot – 4/10
Dalot started on his favoured right flank but struggled to contain Son. He was caught marking Mathys Tel instead of Son during Spurs’ first goal.
Patrick Dorgu – 7/10
A performance to be proud of. He made several overlapping runs and defended resolutely at left wing-back.
Casemiro – 4/10
The five-time Champions League winner failed to cover the ground with enough intensity.
He was the only player to come off this evening.
Bruno Fernandes – 5/10
The United skipper created a chance for Garnacho in the first half but lost possession far too often.
Alejandro Garnacho – 5/10
The Argentina international wasted a glorious chance to level the score, blasting his shot wildly over the bar.
Joshua Zirkzee – 6/10
The Dutch international displayed neat footwork in tight spaces. He should have done better with his header when Mazraoui floated in a delightful cross.
Rasmus Hojlund – 4/10
He tested Vicario early on but failed to contribute anything apart from that one opportunity.
Chido Obi – NA
Too late to rate.
