Total alert at Real Madrid over Courtois’ future

Article image:Total alert at Real Madrid over Courtois’ future

Thibaut Courtois is raising many doubts in the offices of the Santiago Bernabéu. The goalkeeper’s contract ends in June 2026 and, so far, there have been no contacts regarding its renewal. His continuity next season seems guaranteed, but it is not. If the Belgian does not want to renew, Real Madrid could consider selling him.

Uncertain renewal for Courtois

Thibaut Courtois has a contract until 2026, but his future at the club is not assured, and the renewal of his contract is unknown. The club wants to extend Courtois’ contract, but the negotiating parties have not reached an agreement yet. His performance on the pitch guarantees his continuity, but the meeting between the two parties may lead to surprises.

Courtois arouses interest in the market

The transfer market is already active, and the case of Thibaut Courtois is no exception. Saudi Arabia has shown interest in the goalkeeper and in the Premier League several clubs would be willing to make him an attractive offer.

To date, there have been no confirmed negotiations, although this could change quickly depending on one decision, that of a renewal which does not appear to be moving forward. In the event that the fight for these goalkeepers is fierce, the Whites cannot let one of the most significant goalkeepers in the world slip through their fingers.

Madrid cannot risk losing him

Thibaut Courtois has been key to Real Madrid’s recent victories. He believes that the Belgian goalkeeper, despite turning 33 in May, still has a lot to offer. His performance shows this, a goalkeeper with skill who excels in Real Madrid’s big games.

But Real Madrid is well aware that sooner or later it will have to look for alternatives. There is a lot of confidence in Lunin, who last season defended the Whites’ goal offering total guarantees after the serious injury of the Belgian. When Courtois was injured, the Whites signed Kepa to replace him, but Lunin showed that he was at a higher level and managed to establish himself in goal. But the Whites believe there are better goalkeepers on the market.

Alternatives to Courtois

One of the alternatives that has been mentioned in recent months is Gianluigi Donnarumma. The goalkeeper is not happy at PSG, and could end up leaving the French team. But he has had irregular performances, alternating incredible performances with errors that are incomprehensible for his quality. He is only 26 years old, something that plays in his favor.

Another name that has been mentioned in connection with Real Madrid is Lucas Chevalier, the goalkeeper from Lille. The French goalkeeper has already demonstrated his great potential at the age of just 23. This very season he produced one of his best performances, precisely against the Whites in the Champions League. He is a goalkeeper in demand and his price tag is around 25 million euros.

But Real Madrid does not forget about the youth academy: Fran González, goalkeeper for Castilla, is very popular in the white house. His characteristics are similar to those of Courtois, and they believe he could make the leap to the first team next season. Betting on the youth academy is always risky, and even more so in goal, but they have confidence in the kid’s potential.

Thibaut Courtois is still the priority for Real Madrid. The club’s management does not believe there is anyone capable of matching his level at the moment, and the priority is to extend his contract. On the other hand, Florentino Pérez could make an exception with his contract renewal. It is common for players over the age of 30 to renew their contracts year after year, but in the case of the Belgian, this situation could be different in order to tie him down for the coming seasons.
