The MLS recently honored standout teams on their X account, highlighting clubs that have excelled both in the Supporters' Shield and the MLS Cup.
This recognition includes Toronto FC, whose remarkable 2017 season remains a milestone in MLS history. That year, Toronto FC emerged as the top team in the league and left a lasting mark on the championship. Now, the club is working to rebuild and recapture that level of success, focusing on shaping the team to return to its best.
Toronto FC has spent 18 years in Major League Soccer, with the pinnacle of its achievements coming in 2017, when they secured both the Supporters' Shield and the MLS Cup. That season, TFC dominated the Eastern Conference, finishing with an impressive 69 points—a record-breaking total that remains a high-water mark in MLS.
Winning both the Shield and the Cup in the same year was a historic accomplishment, placing Toronto FC among an elite group of only six teams to achieve this “double” victory.
Since 2017, only one other team, Los Angeles FC, has managed to replicate this achievement, completing the double in 2022 with a similar feat by finishing with 67 points and winning the MLS Cup.
This parallel highlights the significance of Toronto FC's accomplishments and reminds the club of the heights they can reach. With hopes of returning to these glory days, Toronto FC aims to make a strong comeback for the 2025 season, focusing on organizational and on-field improvements to restore their status as one of MLS’s elite. Work in various ways so that the team delivers the expected results with strong athletic performance, and the fans can once again experience each match with excitement and joy.
