AC Milan may not have an easy pursuit of Andrea Belotti after all as Torino’s president Urbano Cairo has hinted that the striker wants to renew.

Belotti has a contract expiring in June 2022 and therefore Torino find themselves in a situation where they must seriously consider selling if they cannot get him to sign the renewal.

Tuttosport (via MilanLive) recently reported that there are several clubs both in Italy and abroad that are interested in the player and are ready to step forward in the summer window, with Milan among them.

Cairo would have to offer a salary increase to about €3.5m net per season plus bonuses, while Belotti currently receives a salary of €2m net plus bonuses. It will be necessary to see if Torino will be willing to offer him what he wants, and if his release clause of €100m for foreign clubs remains.

The paper added how Milan would no longer offer the player what they might have two or three years ago in terms of wages, even if qualification to the Champions League could possibly allow them to be more relaxed in terms of budget.

Now, Cairo has returned to speaking about Belotti’s future in an interview on Radio 1 and he expressed hope about reaching an agreement over a new deal, in contrast to his gloomier outlook before.

“The marriage must continue. The sporting director Vagnati is working on it, then I’ll take the field too. The goal is this and when there is something new to announce we will do it. We have the will to renew the contract and I think he thinks the same thing. He has been with Torino for six years, he has done a lot for Toro and also Toro has done a lot for him,” he said (via MilanLive).
