Torino President Urbano Cairo reiterates that while Milan ‘were interested’ in Alessandro Buongiorno, the Italy international is not for sale and Nemanja Radonjic received interest from MLS.
Buongiorno had practically been sold over the summer of 2023 to Atalanta until the player himself pulled the plug on the deal, insisting he did not want to leave.
Reports suggested that the defender was rather more open to the prospect of joining Milan in the January transfer window, but that negotiations between the clubs faltered this time around.
“Nothing happened, quite simply Milan were interested, but we and the player said he was not for sale,” Torino President Cairo told reporters at the Lega Serie A meeting.
“It was all very simple. We met over dinner to discuss it, but a phone call would’ve sufficed. We promised not to talk about it again, both we and the player very clearly said no.
“I wouldn’t know what his price-tag is, I have not thought about it.”
Torino had also been in negotiations with Sevilla for striker Rafa Mir, but there are reports those talks collapsed when the player said he would prefer to remain in LaLiga.
“I think Torino are alright as we are. The team is in place, we resisted various offers for Buongiorno and others.”
Another player who Cairo is eager to keep hold of is forward Radonjic, who is not in the squad for tonight’s Serie A trip to Cagliari.
“Radonjic had a slight injury, that is why he is not called up. As far as I am concerned, he is not for sale. He had interest from America and Italy, but he is an important player and nothing came of it.”
